About Dix Hills

Dix Hills was at one time a mostly rural community made up of farmers. When World War II ended, farms were sold and replaced by housing projects which helped to rapidly increase the population of the area. Like many other parts of Long Island, the housing market boomed and more people moved to the suburbs. While much has changed in Dix Hills over the years, you can still see remnants of the quaint farming community and Native American tribes that once dominated the area. The areas around Dix Hills were once home to the Algonquin Montauk People, the Secatogues and the Massapequas.
